El Salvador expects more Chinese visitors since its tourism ministry held its first event in the country last year, Xu Lin reports.

The "Land of Volcanoes" hopes for an eruption of incoming Chinese travelers. El Salvador hosts 25 volcanoes and more than 300 kilometers of Pacific coastline.

Indeed, Central America's smallest country's tourism offerings are vast.

Visitors can enjoy its natural splendor, Mayan civilization and adventure sports, including surfing, diving and hiking.

El Salvador's Ministry of Tourism recently held in Beijing its first event in China since the countries established diplomatic ties in August.

"Our visit to China is to increase El Salvador's popularity and introduce its scenic areas and travel experiences," says Edna Carolina Cerna Melendez, vice-minister of foreign affairs of the Tourism Ministry, who attended Beijing's event.

"It's also a good opportunity to interact with Chinese travel agencies and online travel platforms to pave the way for our cooperation in developing tourism products and expanding the Chinese market."

The ministry plans to join more tourism activities in China. It recently opened an official WeChat account.
