Recent live-fire exercises held by the People's Liberation Army's Tibet Regional Command were part of the command's annual training plan and were not aimed at any specific country, according to a military spokesman.

Senior Colonel Tan Kefei, a newly-appointed spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, said at a news conference in Beijing on Thursday afternoon that the regional command recently organized several live-fire combat exercises to test and verify its troops' operational capability and strike prowess in areas at "ultra-high altitude".

He made the remarks in response to a request for confirmation about the exercises, saying these operations were routine moves for training purposes.
