Despite covering only about 73 hectares, the Snake Island in Lyushunkou district of Dalian, Liaoning province, is home to nearly 20,000 venomous pit vipers, which are endemic to the area.
To celebrate the Year of the Snake, Dalian News Media Group released a video titled Year of the Snake: Tales of the Snake Island to showcase the natural landscapes of the Snake Island-Laotieshan National Nature Reserve.
The video depicted nature reserve staff members patrolling the island and implanting electronic chips into the snakes, along with scenes of Chinese pit vipers hunting for food and mating.
The Snake Island-Laotieshan National Nature Reserve was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2024.
