Construction quality monitoring beefed up

Chinese railway operators have intensified monitoring of construction projects to boost railway network quality. Early this year, China Railway called for strengthening the safety and quality control of its construction projects, aiming to continuously improve the scale and quality of the railway network. The Jiexiu building construction area at Taiyuan Housing and Construction Apartment Section in Shanxi province is keenly monitoring projects at Xiaonan, Xiaoxi and Baibiguan stations along the Jiexiu-Yangquanqu Railway. Its staff members have discovered problems such as inadequate lime soil ratio and prevented safety hazards. This is to ensure the safe and high-quality progress of these projects.

Yuan strengthens against greenback

The Chinese renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 169 pips to 6.9025 against the US dollar on Wednesday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System. In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day. The central parity rate of the yuan against the US dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
