China urges US to end blockade of Cuba
China on Tuesday urged the United States to heed growing calls for justice and immediately end its blockade, sanctions and all forms of coercion and pressure against Cuba.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said opposition to Washington's policy toward Cuba had been voiced recently by a range of countries as well as people from different sectors in the United States.
On Saturday, Brazil, Mexico and Spain issued a joint statement, calling for efforts to ease the situation in Cuba. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov had visited Cuba and said Moscow would not abandon the country, while rallies in several European countries had been held in support of Cuba. Some US nongovernmental organizations have called on Washington to lift its sanctions on Cuba.
China is willing to work with all parties to firmly support Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security and oppose external interference, Guo said.
