Guarding the skies
Shenyang airport's team behind the lights
As night falls over Shenyang Taoxian International Airport, its airfield lighting system guides aircraft takeoff and landing, backed by the 24/7 dedication of the Ruijie Chuangxin Team from the Airfield Lighting Supporting Office. Dubbed the "guardians of the airport's eyes", the team stands firm at their posts, wielding professional skills to ensure the safety of flight operations.
Airfield lighting is the "lifeline" for aircraft movements. The team undertakes a full range of tasks including inspection, maintenance, emergency repairs and upgrades of runways, taxiways, lighting systems and signage. Operating on round-the-clock standby, the team adheres to a "second-level response and minute-level disposal" principle to ensure uninterrupted facility performance.
During the winter-spring transition period, sharp temperature fluctuations pose severe challenges. Working only during flight gaps, team members must carry tools, climb towers, and calibrate, repair and replace lights one by one on icy runways, strictly complying with civil aviation standards to eliminate hazards.
Beyond routine work, the team has made notable strides in innovation. It has independently developed rapid maintenance tools, boosting lamp replacement efficiency by 30 percent, established a closed-loop "prediction-inspection-rectification" mechanism to prevent risks at the source, and promoted technical continuity through a mentor-apprentice system.
Through harsh winters and scorching summers, the team members steadfastly adhere to their posts. With their commitment, they embody civil aviation spirit, providing a reliable "air beacon" for airport safety and passengers' peaceful journeys.
