Poetry of textiles
The Tsinghua University Art Museum is home to a rich collection of vintage textiles. Its ongoing exhibition, Creating a Poetic Realm with Silk, features a curated selection of embroidered and woven pieces from ancient times. Running through April 2027, the show celebrates the varied history of textiles from a fresh perspective, highlighting the craftsmanship behind intricate designs where colorful threads and fine fabrics form calligraphic characters and painterly compositions in classical styles.
The themes range from popular motifs of flowers, fruits and birds to moral teachings and social etiquette, as well as symbolic objects reflecting the spiritual pursuits of ancient scholars and wishes for longevity and prosperity. Together, these works reveal the cultural depth, vigorous vitality and timeless charm of traditional handicrafts.
