China Unicom, one of China's telecommunications giants, has invested 100 million patacas (12.5 million U.S. dollars) in the launch of its Macao Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) services.

The Macao Post Daily Thursday quoted Chen Wu, deputy general manager of the Macao branch of China Unicom, as saying that his company is expected to invest 200 million patacas (25 million U.S. dollars) to 300 million patacas (37.5 million U.S. dollars) in Cacao CDMA services in the next few years.

Subscribers using China Unicom's CDMA services are able to make phone calls over the world without switching the SIM cards, Chen told the newspaper.

China Unicom's low fees and quality services are believed to increase competition in Macao's telecommunications market, Tou Veng Keong, director of Macao's Telecommunications Regulation Bureau, was quoted as saying.
