Overseas investors race to establish research centers in Shanghai

Foreign-funded auto parts manufacturers, such as Tenneco, an American producer of automotive emission controls and suspension systems, Delphi, a global supplier of mobile electronics and transportation systems, Schaeffler Group from Germany, and South Korean tire maker Hankook, are all keen on setting up research and development centers in Shanghai.

Tenneco's development center in Shanghai is their first one in Asia. Tim Jackson, chief technology officer of Tenneco, believes it helps his company accelerate updating products and cut their costs effectively to set up research center and factories locally.

And with its Shanghai base, Tenneco can promote sales of automotive emission control and suspensions systems, and provide better services for customers in China.
