COSCO Shipping Co reported a jump of nearly 50 percent in its first-half earnings on robust foreign trade.

COSCO Shipping, which handles machinery, equipment and vehicles, booked 354.67 million yuan in net profit in the first half of the year, up 49 percent on 2006, it said in a statement yesterday.

Sales from outbound trips rose 50 percent to 1.18 billion yuan, with sales from inbound trips up 13 percent at 406.04 million yuan.

COSCO shipping operated a fleet of 85 ships as of the end of June, with a combined capacity of 1.38 million deadweight tons.
