Pipeline to ensure stable oil supply for Beijing

An oil transmission pipeline circling Beijing will go into operation at the end of this month and is expected to ensure stable supply for the Olympic host city.

The pipeline, designed with an annual transport capacity of 2.85 million tonnes, will provide 70 percent of the city's oil supply, Sunday's Beijing Morning Post cited Zhu Wangyou, spokesman of Sinopec Beijing branch.

The 183-km oil pipeline, the country's first around-the-city pipeline, links five key oil depots along the six-ring road with Sinopec's Yanshan refinery in southwestern Beijing.

The pipeline would make oil transport more stable and efficient, which was usually hampered by adverse weathers or limited transport capacity on roads and rails, said Zhu.

Meanwhile, a 129-km aviation kerosene pipeline is being built on the same route, which is expected to channel 1.2 million tonnes of aviation kerosene from the Yanshan refinery to the Beijing Capital International Airport.
