Transportation of unsafe materials and wastes to Olympic venue cities has been banned by the Ministry of Public Security to safeguard the Olympic Games.

From Thursday, ammunition, explosives, poisonous and radioactive items, cannot go to or via the co-host cities of Tianjin, Shanghai, Qinhuangdao, and Shenyang until August 31, a week after the end of the Games.

The ban was extended for Beijing and Qingdao, the venue of the Olympic sailing events in Shandong province, to September 30, nearly two weeks after the end of the Paralympics.

Police authorities would consider to grant permission on transportation of indispensable materials for residents, Olympic competitions, social security needs, disaster-relief, and political, military and diplomatic uses, according to the ministry.
