Chinese automakers are eager for a share of the market in booming developing countries, among them Brazil, which has the potential to become the world's third-largest auto market in five years.

A recent example was "a surprising number" of Chinese brands at the Sao Paulo International Auto Show that started on Oct 24, said foreign media reports.

Of the 30 or so brands on display at the biggest motoring event in South America, seven - JAC, Chery, Great Wall, Chang'an, Haima, Hafei and Jinbei - were from China.

It is the first time Great Wall Motors has participated in the Sao Paulo show, which opened as the company ramps up to sell its vehicles in Brazil in the second half of next year.

JAC and Chery are the top two Chinese carmakers in Brazil, both with deliveries of more than 20,000 vehicles last year.

JAC announced last month that it will invest in a 100,000-unit Brazilian plant scheduled to start operation in 2014.

Chery's assembly plant in the country is already under construction and will be completed next year.
