11,500 evacuate after gas leak in Chongqing

Residents of Gaoqiao, a town in
Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, watch the raging flames of a gas leak
on Saturday night March 25, 2006 as they leave their homes. A blast at a gas
well on Saturday morning forced the evacuation of more than 11,500 local
residents. No casualties had been reported by press time. The accident took
place in the same area as a leak in December 2003, which caused the deaths of
