TAIYUAN -- Rescuers have recovered the body of a miner who disappeared when a tunnel collapsed beneath accommodation buildings at a North China coal mine on early Monday.

The find brings the death toll from the accident in Yangquan city, Shanxi Province, to 13 and has ended the search operation, according to the Provincial Bureau of Work Safety.

A section of newly completed tunnel at Yinying Coal Mine, east of Taiyuan, the provincial capital, collapsed around 1:50 a.m. on Monday, bringing down part of the three rows of residential buildings, killing 12, and leaving one missing and two injured, said a bureau source.

The accident occurred at night when nobody was in the tunnel and all the fatalities were reported in the buildings inhabited by five families, said the source.

The injured are still being treated in hospital.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
