Pet dogs make mess of streets, need toilets

Building toilets for dogs is becoming an important part of urban planning in Guangzhou, Guangdong's provincial capital.

Jian Wenhao, director of Guangzhou municipal commission of construction, urged local neighborhood committees to construct pet toilets.

Committees do not have to wait for approval from the commission or other relevant upper authorities, he said.

The number of pets has growth rapidly in recent years and the southern metropolis now has more than a million registered pet dogs, resulting in sanitary problems. The city currently has no special toilets for dogs.
