BEIJING -- Latest survey by the Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage shows that there are 526.65467 kilometers of the Great Wall in Beijing.

The figures were released Saturday, the fourth "Cultural Heritage Day", a domestic holiday that falls on the second Saturday of each June.

Of the nearly 527 km of Great Wall, about 388 km have been renovated or rebuilt, according to the survey. Data released by the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping in April showed the total length of the Great Wall is 8858.88 kilometers.

The Great Wall was originally built by China's first emperor Qin Shi Huang (259-210 BC), who also built the Terra Cotta Warriors in his grand tomb, but most of the surviving walls that are visited today were built in the Ming Dynasty, about 600 years ago.

The Ming Dynasty portions are scattered across the northern part of the country, including the famous Badaling and Mutianyu sections in suburban Beijing.
