About 21.04 billion yuan will be spent on the project.

With a total length of 196.8 km, the railway starts from Qingdao and goes through Rizaho, connecting with a variety of lines in Lianyungang, including the Lianyungang-Yancheng railway and Nantong-Shanghai railway, making it a main artery along China's eastern coast, according to local railway authorities.

The electrified double-line is designed after the first class lines of state-owned railways. When completed, the railway will accommodate various trains, including passenger trains, freight trains and motor train units, local railway authorities said.

The Qingdao-Lianyungang railway is expected to shorten the distance from Qingdao to southern coastal cities by more than 300 km.
