Cashier who stole millions to play lottery on trial

A court in Quanzhou, Fujian province, will soon hear the case of a cashier at a bus company who embezzled millions of yuan to buy lottery tickets.

Ye, 31, allegedly spent 4.3 million yuan ($632,353) of company funds to buy lottery tickets between 2005 and 2007.

Failing to hit a jackpot, Ye fled to Xiamen, where her husband worked, to escape the law.

The woman was arrested last October, when her husband informed the police of her whereabouts.
