Chongqing police will work out a real-name Internet monitoring system that will locate netizens' true personal identifications, whether they are using Messenger-style chat rooms or Twitter-style blogs, a municipal official said to local evening newspaper Thursday.

Chongqing mobile users will also be covered in the monitoring network, said Liu Guanglei, the Municipal Committee Secretary of Political and Legislative Affairs, at a pep-rally meeting of local officials to reiterate the southwestern city's resolve to root out gangs.

There are about 6 million Internet users in the municipality, and half of its more than 31 million residents have a mobile, according to the official.

The meeting was followed by local police bureaus' 100-day crackdown on robbery and burglary.
