BENGHAZI, Libya?- The first batch of emergency humanitarian relief materials, sent by Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) to war-torn Libya, arrived in the Benghazi Airport on Friday. Similar materials will also reach Tripoli later.

The relief materials, weighing about 90 tonnes, include mainly rice, edible oil and medicine, said Ma Jianchun, a minister counselor at the Chinese embassy in Egypt.

Given Libyan people was afflicted by the battles and therefore confronting serious humanitarian crisis ever since the Libyan civil war, the Chinese people are deeply sympathetic and thus China decided to provide a total of 50 million yuan ($7.82 million) worth of humanitarian materials to Libya.

As a member of International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, RCSC had been taking note of the situation in Libya closely.

The first batch of emergency humanitarian relief materials departed from east China's Tianjin airport early Thursday morning local time.

RCSC didn't say when the second batch of the relief aid would be shipped.
