11.6% of domestic goods fail quality standards

(Xinhua) Updated: 2012-10-31 08:04

BEIJING - In its recent quality inspections on a range of domestic products, China's quality watchdog found that 11.6 percent of products failed to meet minimum quality standards.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) spokesperson Li Yuanping said at a press conference on Tuesday that the result came from random surveys and inspections of 2,555 products produced by 2,493 companies.

The AQSIQ found that all surveyed tires for light trucks and auto seat belts exceeded state quality standards, but more than 20 percent of general pressure meters, electric power transformers, wall materials and cell phones were substandard.

The AQSIQ has ordered relevant companies to dispose of their substandard products, while vowing to take further steps to strengthen quality control.

Further details will be published on the AQSIQ's website (www.aqsiq.gov.cn).
