Civilian-friendly policing expected during sessions

BEIJING - During upcoming annual political sessions, police will be required to minimize any interference in the public's daily routine due to security measures.

Provided that security is guaranteed, the utmost efforts should be devoted to reduce any negative influence on normal social life, said Huang Ming, deputy minister of public security, on Thursday.

A circular issued by central authorities last December called for fewer traffic controls for government officials in order to reduce inconvenience for the public.

Huang asked local police departments to follow the rules contained in the circular and perform their duties in a strict, fair and rational manner.

The annual sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC), or China's parliament, and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), or the top political advisory body, typically come with heightened security, particularly in Beijing.
