A nurse from Wuxi, Jiangsu province, went to Beijing to donate bone marrow to an Italian patient suffering from acute leukemia, Yangtze Evening News reported on Wednesday.
Gu Qiujuan, 34, registered as a donor with the China Bone Marrow Bank in 2011 and was asked in November 2013 to donate hematopoietic stem cells as she was a match for a patient in Italy. Gu did not hesitate in signing an agreement for donation with the Wuxi Red Cross. After careful health examinations, Gu traveled to Beijing on Wednesday morning to donate her cells at a local hospital, from where the donation will be sent to Italy.
