Ukraine's China impact 'temporary'

By Li Jiabao (chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2014-03-18 21:26

China's Commerce Ministry spokesman Shen Danyang told reporters on Tuesday that the impact of Ukraine's unrest on China will be temporary.

He added that China has been keeping close watch on the situation. At present, the country's economic and trade cooperation with Ukraine, on the whole, is normal.

The current economic and financial situation, especially Ukraine's currency devaluation, had some impact on China that "we believe is temporary", Shen said.

China expects the Ukraine situation will return to normal and China-Ukraine cooperation will be back on track, Shen said.

China is the second-largest trading partner of Ukraine. Bilateral trade in 2013 rose 7.3 percent year-on-year to $11.12 billion, according to the ministry.

China’s exports to Ukraine increased 7.1 percent to $7.85 billion, while its imports went up 7.9 percent to $3.27 billion.
