A court in Jiangsu province started hearing a case on Wednesday of a former bank official charged with receiving bribes of more than 30 million yuan ($4.82 million).

Yang Kun, former vice-president of the Agricultural Bank of China, stood trial at the Nanjing Intermediate People's Court.

Prosecutors said that from 2005 to 2012, Yang misused his official power to provide benefits such as loans and product promotion to companies and in turn received bribes of 30.79 million yuan.

In May 2013, a statement by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said Yang was being investigated for serious discipline violations and had been expelled from the Communist Party of China and removed from public office.

The trial is continuing.
