HK parallel trading blitz nets 1,485

By Ma Lie (chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2014-07-03 16:59

A two-year crackdown on parallel trading in Hong Kong has resulted in the arrest of 1,485 people from the mainland, Southern Metropolis Daily reported on Thursday.

Hong Kong's Security Bureau said police began tracking illegal parallel trading from September 2012.

Until May this year, officers seized smuggled goods that mainly included milk powder, diapers, health food, skin care products, medicine and wine transported by the parallel traders from Hong Kong to the mainland.

The bureau said it will keep in close contact with customs authorities in Shenzhen to further crack down on dealing in illegal goods.

Parallel imports are non-counterfeit products imported without the permission of the intellectual property rights owners. Such imports are often referred to as grey products.
