Dongguan's $2.92b plan to tackle water pollution

By Li Wenfang in Guangzhou (chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2014-09-04 20:03

Dongguan, the city in Guangdong that has been dubbed the world's workshop, plans to spend 18 billion yuan ($2.92 billion) on controlling water pollution.

The industrial hub was last year named by the Ministry of Water Resources as one of 45 pilot cities required to develop sound water-related infrastructure.

Dongguan has now drawn up its plans, which will be implemented between now and the end of 2016, China News Service reported.

Most of the money will be spent on building a sewage treatment pipeline network, restoring small rivers and safeguarding the quality of water in reservoirs.
