Chinese President Hu Jintao visited the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from August 22 to 25. He saw villages, farms, communities, factories and barracks in Aksu, a predominantly Uygur area; toured Changji, transportation hub that links China and other Central Asian nations,; inspected Karamay, a major oil base; and visited Shihezi, the headquarters of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang.
