World Cup country profile: Nigeria
Nigeria comfortably qualified for their fourth World Cup in five tournaments, remaining unbeaten in six group games and a two-leg play-off win over Ethiopia. The reigning African Champions have been drawn with Argentina, Bosnia and Iran in Group F, and will fancy their chances of equaling their best performance on the biggest stage of all, having reached the last 16 in both the 1994 and 1998 World Cups. But Nigeria will face Argentina in their final group game with trepidation. The Super Eagles have played the Argentines in three previous group stages and lost all three. For that reason Nigeria will need key players to be on top form in Brazil, supplying ammunition for Fenerbahce’s lethal striker Emmanuel Emenike if they are to reach the knockout stages this summer.
