GHAZNI, Afghanistan -- Six anti-government militants were killed as NATO-led airpower pounded their positions in Ghazni province south of Afghanistan, deputy to provincial police chief Nawroz Ali Mahmoudzada said Thursday.

"The air strikes carried out against Taliban hideout in Aaband district Wednesday night as a result six Taliban rebels were killed and five others sustained injuries," Mahmoudzada told Xinhua.

There were no casualties on the troops, he stressed.

Taliban militants have yet to make comment.

Over a dozen militants, according to Mahmoudzada, have been killed over the past two days elsewhere in Ghazni province.
