A concert featuring natural sounds recorded by the Canadian musician Adam Wood was recently staged in Sichuan province's capital Chengdu.

Wood recorded the natural sounds, including the gurgling of brooks, chirping of birds, rustle of bamboo forests and bustle on the streets, at various locations throughout Sichuan. Most were in such places of interest around Chengdu as Qingcheng Mountains and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.

"Chengdu is a city with a long history, and I wish you could have a sense of time-goes-by in all the sounds," the musician says.

It was his first time in the city.

The natural sounds are intended to serve as background music for US artist Will Kerr's multimedia cave painting show, to be held in Chengdu in June.
