Chen Yixiu, 93, a veteran of the Chinese Expeditionary Force in WWII, received a special letter sent to him 68 years ago from a fellow soldier.

The letter was sent to him from Wang Yutian in 1948, telling Chen about Wang's marriage as well as the war situation in Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin province.

Officials with the Jilin Archives Bureau took a trip from Changchun to Shenyang, Liaoning province to personally hand the letter to Chen.

The move is part of a campaign launched by the bureau last year to retrieve letters for veterans.
