Foguang Temple
( chinadaily.com.cn )

Foguang Temple is located to the north of Jianguo road, Mangshi Town. It was built in 1873, during the Qing Dynasty, and named Foguang, meaning that Buddha's brightness shines everywhere. In the Dai language, it refers to the temple where an abbot who didn't wear cassocks hosted religious activities.

In 1989, a Buddhist pagoda was built in the temple. It is more than 10 meters high, with 16 smaller pagodas around it. Visitors flood to the temple for every Water-splashing Festival.

Foguang Temple is built for the tribe chieftains to worship the Buddha. Apart from the Buddha hall, there are side halls, pavilions, archways and bridges in the temple. Patterns on the pedestal, pillars and doors are decorated with beads, ornaments and colored glass. Buddhist umbrellas, lamps and banners hung in the Buddha hall are all exquisite national handicrafts.

The temple has no monks living inside, and temple events are hosted by the administrators of the temple.
