China’s National Patriotic Health Campaign Committee recently designated Guiyang as a trial city for its “healthy city” program along with 37 other cities across the country.
According to the committee, a “healthy city” requires a balance between rural development and residents’ health through improved rural planning, construction and management, and better social and natural environments.
In the last few years, Guizhou has made alterations to its health and environment management strategy and built more infrastructures, helping it become an official “hygienic city” in 2011.
The city plans to improve regulation on drinking water, build more health centers and enhance its public welfare system.
