Children's book exchange promotes interest in reading

By Lu Wei Updated: 2016-10-24

More than 1,000 students and teachers took part in a book-swapping activity on Oct 15, according to an Oct 19 Baotou Evening News report.

The activity was co-hosted by the Baotou committee of the Communist Youth League and Baotou education bureau, with the aim of inspiring an interest in reading among teenagers. The organizers also hoped the activity can serve as a place for young people to meet new friends with common interests.

Students from seven middle and primary schools in Baotou brought their books along to the venue for exchanging with others. Some of the books were also available for sale.

Liu Chenfu, a primary school student from Qingshan district, said he finds the activity interesting and meaningful and that he has made friends with many of the children he met there, thanks to a shared interest in reading.

The activity raised 6,580 yuan ($974) from book sales which will be donated to charity.
