It's an opportunity that cannot be missed for tourists interested in Taiyuan's history and culture as various local folk customs shows are currently being staged during Taiyuan Ancient Town Lantern Carnival in ancient Taiyuan county.
With a history of more than 600 years, ancient Taiyuan county was built on the site of Jinyang Ancient City whose history can be dated back to the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC), and covers an area of 86.67 hectares.
From Jan 1 to March 8, folk customs shows, intangible cultural heritage performances and temple fairs, such as shehuo (typical of folk customs celebrating Chinese New Year), lion dancing and walking on stilts, are being displayed in the ancient county.
Visitors are also able to access different local specialties including decorated steamed buns and mutton soup, allowing them to sample a taste of Taiyuan during the coming Spring Festival.
