Stopping corruption

(China Daily)
Updated: 2007-01-12 07:12

I am very pleased to see that China's leadership is determined to fight against corruption (China Daily, January 10).

President Hu Jintao laid out the key steps in the next stage of China's anti-corruption campaign.

However, from my viewpoint, the most effective and important way to prevent corruption is to perfect related laws and regulations. China does have its anti-corruption laws. But compared with the similar laws of the West, China 's laws are too general.

Rule of law should not just be a slogan that sounds nice. It is the legislators of China rather than the government officials who need to urgently work out a better legal system to prevent corruption. Ethics education is necessary, but it cannot be as workable as the law.
