Comment on "China, Indonesia to cement coordination" (China Daily website, March 25)

China's relations with Indonesia are growing stronger in a new era of close consultation and cooperation. But both countries are facing an extremely unpredictable and uncertain future given the fact that the United States is aggressively pursuing dominance of the Asia Pacific region. The US has decided to station more troops in northern Australia and will expand and advance its military base there. This move by the US is a serious concern for both Indonesia and China. The US' reinforcement of military facilities in Australia is a direct threat to the two countries and even the whole Asia Pacific region. Therefore, it is encouraging to see that both Indonesia and China have stepped up their cooperation to a higher strategic level.
