Chinese manners are just different then somewhere else, sometimes people forget that they are currently not in China and spitting or littering is not "normal," as well as some "table manners."
China expect foreigners to adapt to Chinese customs (for example to restrict nudity and expressing personal affection in public), so I think it is normal that traveling abroad - They should fit to "abroad rules" (just a basics).
