An official fell and died in Taishan city, in South China's Guangdong province, on Wednesday morning, the city's publicity department said in a statement.

Mei Jianmin, 48, the Party chief and director of Taishan's administration of work safety, fell from the fifth floor of a building in Taishan, according to the statement.

No other details were given. The cause of the death is still under investigation, the statement said.
