PYONGYANG -- The football association of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) said Sunday its loss to South Korea on Wednesday was due to food poisoning and biased referees, demanding "an appropriate measure" from FIFA and apology from South Korea.

"It is as clear as noonday that it was a product of the Lee Myung Bak group's moves for confrontation with the DPRK and a deliberate behavior bred by the unsavory forces instigated by it," the official KCNA news agency cited a statement issued by the football association as saying.

South Korea edged the DPRK 1-0 by a late goal in a 2010 South Africa World Cup Asian Qualifier held on Wednesday in Seoul.

The DPRK said its key players suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea after eating the food provided by the hotel they accommodated and was treated unfairly in the match.

The association asked the FIFA to "examine the whole process of the match and take an appropriate measure".

The DPRK placed second in Group B with 10 points after its loss to South Korea.
