A waste of resources or respect for life?

How far would you go to save a cat's life?

Well, five firefighters in Changzhou city, East China's Jiangsu province, drove 20 kilometers to rescue a farm cat caught by a mousetrap, jinbaonet.com, a local news portal reported.

The rescue story has made a splash online with divided reactions. Many gave thumbs up to the firefighters, saying all lives are equal, and small animals like cats and dogs deserve our help.

On the other hand some pointed out it was actually a waste of time and energy, for the round-trip, which took an hour or so, used much gasoline. "One can help rescue the poor cat himself by just breaking the iron wires of the trap," one Internet user commented.
