Educational opportunities for rural Chinese students grew on September 10, 2009, when a special cooperative project between the British Council, Nokia MobilEdu and the China Youth Development Foundation held its opening ceremony. The project is aimed at donating books to help schools in less developed Chinese areas set up a “Hope Library.”
18 schools in Hunan Province will each receive thousands of new books donated by this project.
Representatives from the three sides all expressed their intentions to boost education in rural Chinese areas.
Ms. Samantha Grainger, chief executive of the English Learning and Cooperation Education Project of the British Council, said that this co-organized project was to tighten the educational and cultural links between Britain and China.
The project will donate books on English, literature, music, and many other categories. Each “Hope Library” will expose students to international cultures with its wide range of choices.

The project is currently funded by both the British Council and Nokia MobilEdu.
