AMMAN -- Jordan will send humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip, which has suffered Israeli heavy strikes from Saturday morning, local daily The Jordan Times reported on Monday.

Under directive of Jordan's king Abdullah II, sixteen trucks laden with blood units, food and medicines amid other aid supplies will head to Gaza on Monday, Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) Secretary General Mohammad Aitan said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Private Hospitals Association (PHA) President Fawzi Hammouri said the PHA will be ready to receive injured people from Gaza, while King Abdullah University Hospital organized a blood donation campaign to support Palestinians in the coastal strip.

Gaza Strip was under intensive Israeli air strikes for the second successive day on Sunday, during which at least 285 Palestinians have so far been killed in the powerful offensive which Israel said was aimed at halting nearly daily cross-border rocket attacks by Palestinian militants.

Jordan signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1994, only the second Arab country (after Egypt) to normalize relations with Israel.
