WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama said Monday that he was deeply troubled by reports of a deadly suicide bombing in southern Russia, conveying condolences to the Kremlin and victims' families.

"I am deeply troubled about reports of a suicide bombing today in Nazran, Ingushetia that has resulted in the tragic loss of at least 20 lives and 138 injured," Obama said in a statement.

"There can be no justification for such an act of terrorism. This latest attack highlights the concerning increase in violence in the region affecting officials and civilians alike. Our condolences go out to the government of Russia and the families of victims," said the president.

Reports here quoted Russian police as saying that a bomber detonated a truck packed with explosives at the gate of the local police headquarters in Nazran, killing at least 20 people and wounding 138 others.
