Bilateral trade between Vietnam, Russia up in 2009

HANOI - The two-way trade between Vietnam and Russia in 2009 went up 11.5 percent year-on-year to US$1.83 billion, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs on Monday.

In 2009, Vietnam's export turnover to Russia saw a year-on-year fall of 38 percent to US$415 million. Vietnam's export items to Russia included seafood, garment, footwear, vegetables and fruits, coffee, cashew, tea and rubber, said the Vietnam Customs.

Vietnam spent US$1.415 billion on importing goods from Russia, up 46 percent year-on-year. Vietnam mainly imported oil products, steel products and fertilizers from this European market.

In 2010, the bilateral trade between Vietnam and Russia is expected to climb to US$2.5 billion, up 35 percent year-on-year, according to domestic insiders.
