The 220 teraflops supercomputer "will be used by space scientists for solving complex aerospace problems," The Indian Express daily quoted an ISRO statement as saying.

The computer was fully designed and built at Vikram Sarabhai Space Center in the southern Indian state of Kerela's capital Thiruvananthapuram, "using commercially available hardware, open source software components and in-house developments", ISRO was quoted as saying.

It costs 140 million rupees ($3 million) to build, the report said.
