SEOUL - Samsung Electronics, the world's largest memory chip maker, said Thursday it has started production of new NAND flash memory chips that can transmit data at a faster speed than any other chips.

The fresh NAND flash chip can transmit data at a bandwidth of up to 400 megabit per second (Mbps), 10 times faster than the widely used 40 Mbps Single Data Rate (SDR) NAND flash memory, Samsung said in a statement.

Equipped with a toggle Double Data Rate (DDR) 2.0 interface, the new flash memory features a 64 gigabit density based on 20 nanometer class process technology.

Data transmission speed of the chip is three times faster than the 133 Mbps toggle DDR 1.0, or the 32 gigabit NAND flash memory, which Samsung started producing in 2009, according to the statement.

The new chip is designed to better support the high-performance requirements of mobile devices such as smartphones, tablet computers and solid state drives (SSDs), Samsung said.
