NEW DELHI - India Thursday test-fired its homegrown nuclear-capable Prithvi II missile in the eastern state of Orissa, said highly placed sources.

The indigenously developed missile was tested at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur in the state's Balasore district.

It is yet to be known whether the test is successful.

Prithvi is India's first indigenously built ballistic missile. It's one of the five missiles being developed under India's Integrated Guided Missile Development Program.

Prithvi-II, already inducted by the Indian Army, is nine meters long and one meter wide. It is also a single stage liquid-fuelled missile with a maximum warhead mounting capability of 500 kg, but with an extended range of 250 km.
